On this page, we will explain the technical aspects and the process of making a chip.
In order to make the tip creation process as smooth as possible, we have focused on points that are different from regular treatments.
-
First, read the description.
-
After that, while watching the video, read the instructions in the video and make sure you understand them before you start kneading the clay.
The important thing is how rich your imagination is.
Before you start, take a look at your nails. What is the boundary between the gel and your nail? If you can remove the gel, what will it look like?
Strictly speaking, if you use a 0.28 mm tape, you will have to file down the inside of the tip to create a 0.28 mm gap. However, many people who use tips have problems with their nails or don't normally use gel, so they want to add length. In that case, it is known that thin tape tends to come off easily, so please understand that this is a compromise. However, there is a solution to this problem. If you are interested, we will be doing this in our Educator Class, so please come and join us.
For now, let's start by creating a perfect chip where even those 0.28 mm differences are a concern!
-Notes-
* Regarding handling of clay
The material is silicone. The difference in color between the nail mold and the model clay is the difference in Shore hardness. The first edition is currently vanilla for the nail mold and berry for the nail model, but there are various colors available. Different color clays appear in the video.
If the room temperature is high, store it in the refrigerator and take it out just before use.
However, since the amount is much less than that used by dentists, it will warm up quickly from body heat, which will accelerate hardening, so it is important not to hold it in your hands for too long and not to warm it up .
If you want the hardening to occur more slowly, use less grey clay!
If you use about 3/4 the amount of gray instead of the same amount, the hardening will be slower. The final product will still have a hardness of 95, so don't worry.
(There is no need to measure precisely, just leave a little bit of the grey in the container when you remove the clay with the stick.)
When a nail artist takes a mold of your nails directly
(The basic operation is the same as for self-timer)
- Prepare the clay for making nail impressions and the protective equipment tips on the table in advance.
- The tip is there as a guide to prevent customers from getting the finger size wrong and to ensure that they do not press too hard or too little, so once you get used to it you will no longer feel it is necessary.
- The clay should be applied within 30 seconds from the moment the two colors are combined! While applying it, check that the nail is covered! It starts to harden in 60 seconds, and the processing time limit is 80 seconds. Do not touch it once it has been applied! After that, wait at least 2 minutes before removing it.
- When taking impressions of a customer, once all 10 fingers have been covered, the first finger has already hardened and is stored in a special case, making sure not to make a mistake with the number.
- The collection itself takes just 15 minutes. We recommend water treatment, hand massage, and paraffin pack before and after the procedure, and ask about your design preferences during the procedure.
How to make a nail model
Please be sure to observe the following points when purchasing clay.
- Prepare the nail mold, clay for making the nail model, stick, non-cream (with a white circle label on the bottom), and brush (any clean brush will do) on the table in advance.
- Take a rice-sized amount of cream on the brush and rub it onto the underside of a lid, then apply a thin layer of cream to the entire inside of the nail mold.
- It is easier to use if you use the stick on both sides and mark them as R1, L1 in advance.
- The clay should be mixed within 30 seconds from the moment the two colors are combined! Place it at the front of the tip of the claw mold and slide your finger down to prevent air from accumulating inside. Once it is firmly pressed all the way to the tip, quickly place the stick on top and enclose it. At this time, make sure the bottom is flat , as you will be putting it into the line. It will start to harden in 60 seconds, and the processing time limit is 80 seconds. After 2 minutes or more have passed, peel it off.
Processing the nail model (machine cutting)
- Since it is not possible to lower the sidewall of the nail model, it is scraped off with a machine. Wipe off the non-cream from the nail model with a wipe soaked in ethanol.
- Only file down the raised part of the sidewall so that you can apply gel all the way to the edge of the nail plate.
- If the nail plate is damaged, the damaged area will become concave, even if only slightly. In other words, understand that the inside of the finished tip will be convex, and proceed carefully with the intention of leaving only the nail plate.
*If you do not want to use a machine to file, you can also apply gel so that the brush touches the cuticle firmly, then peel the hardened tip off the nail model, and file away any burrs that form into the tip.

Processing of nail model (lengthening and repair)
- Similarly, to add length, mix equal amounts of two colors of clay together. Use a small amount of clay from a spare bag or from the clay for the pinky finger.
- You can use either clay for nail molds or clay for nail models, but if you want to carve it with a machine, use clay for nail models. If you want to make it about 3 mm long, a piece of clay the size of a grain of rice will be enough.
- Place the kneaded clay with your fingertips on the tip of the model and press it down with your fingertips to make it fit the model, then stretch it as if you are making a thin film to create a connection.
- If the sides of the free edge are spread out as an extension of the nail bed, they will easily become bucket-shaped, so the key is to make them a little narrower.
- Even if there is no need to extend the length, if the tip is chipped or there is a hole due to air getting in, any concave parts will be repaired to make them flat.
Gel application
- Apply base gel twice, thinly. *The application of this base gel is very different from normal treatments.
- For the first layer, apply vertically as close as possible to the cuticle line.
- Hardening.
- For the second layer, I intended to recreate the nail plate horizontally.
- Hardening.
- Finish the clear tip with a special non-wipe top coat gel.
- Hardening.
- Apply color and art. If the color gel is cured thoroughly so that there is as little uncured gel as possible, the finished tip will last longer. If the color is not cured properly, uncured gel may come out of the tip, causing the tip to deteriorate faster, so be careful.
- Finally, apply the top coat again to finish.
- Hardening.
*There is no need to wipe off either the base or top coat. The top coat gel in the video is a jar type, but it has since been changed to an improved polish type.
